If it's a fresh new look you want in your home, there's no better place to start than in your bathroom. Because the space is easy to manage, you can really let your creativity run wild. Treat it like your prototype in setting the tone for other rooms in your home. Today there are a myriad of styles, themes and color schemes to pick and choose from. Many bathroom specialists have made our lives much easier by using bathroom vanities as a focal point and working around them to make our bathroom experience a truly unique one.

The humble bathroom is such an understated room in the home because it is usually associate with relieving one's self. Many years ago the concept of a bathroom did not really exist. It was rather just a long-drop in a little outdoor house. When the advent of porcelain took the world by storm, manufactures started making toilets that could be used inside the home. Hence the bathroom was born. Now you could conveniently have the toilet and a tub in one room.

I remember clearly what my grandma's bathroom looked like. It was really dull; with a wash basin, a tub, a toilet and a small cabinet. These of course were all in white as it gave one a sense of sterility, but her bathroom was usually a place where you wanted to get out of very quickly.

As time marched on and fashion became prevalent in our lives and even more so in our homes, we started demanding better looking bathrooms from the industry. Well, they sat up and listened. You can now just walk into a bathroom store and quickly assemble the style you want.

Having said that, lets have a look at vanities and their functionality.

As mentioned before, a vanity should be the focal point of your bathroom as it has more than one purpose. Not only do you use it to collect water in; it is also used to brush ones teeth and wash ones face. You could also use the cabinet below the basin to store your towels, soaps or detergents.

Today bathroom vanities are both functional and beautiful and no matter what your fashion sense is, you will find decorating or redecorating your bathroom is both satisfying and rewarding for years to come. What better place to express ones creativity than in your humble bathroom. Lets change our perceptions and make our bathrooms a place where we want to spend time relaxing and revitalizing our bodies and mind.
