Advancements In Brochure Printing In Recent Times

By Jude Clark

Circulating brochures has always been an effective marketing tactic for any business. They can be circulated by hand or by post to customers, or can just be placed on cash counters of retail outlets. The need to have printed brochures has led to the rise of a segment of the printing services industry, which specifically caters to brochures. Brochure printing has undergone a number of developments in recent years, with the advent and increasing use of the internet triggering the latest of these developments.

At a time when computers hadn't made their foray into brochure printing, the whole thing was a tedious activity involving use of plate-making tools and film negatives, and the steps involved taking multiple test prints, making adjustments, and what not. Even in design, the clients could not provide detailed suggestions and the printers most of the times shouldered the design task, working with a restricted set of pre decided formats.

Now, however, brochures are designed, sent across to the printer, and edited on computers, mostly by the customer himself, and the end product is printed and delivered within a much shorter timeframe. With technology advancing rapidly, immediate printing of numerous brochures and their quick supply within a day's time has become a reality.

One must not forget that brochure printing involves careful consideration of aspects like content, design and formatting. The ushering in of the digital era has opened up a vista of advancements in this area like glossy full-colour printing, complicated layout formats, and packages on content-building.

Clients nowadays most of the times favour full-colour brochures and digital brochures amongst the latest types of brochures provided by printing services firms. These are usually appropriate for brochures which will be in use from medium to long-term. Vibrant and eye-catching but brief brochures are best for short-term circulation in massive volumes, which are printed through a restricted print run. Off-set printing, which is a relatively older method, is still the preferred choice for these brochures as even though it takes more time to prepare the brochures, a huge number of brochures can be printed at one go.

Ancillary services are now provided by several printing service providers besides the quality improvements in the prints. These are services like design, direct mailing, distribution etc.

Perhaps the most significant advancement in brochure printing has been the internet, through which customers look for and access printing services, place orders, view templates, and select the specifications for the print order. Therefore, brochure printing has changed a lot in a relatively short time, and the rate of advancements does not seem to be slowing down at all.
